Mpelembe Secondary School is located in the Eastern part of Kitwe, on the Copperbelt of Zambia in an area known as Nkana East-27th Avenue. It nestles in a beautiful, quiet and spacious surroundings that are conducive for learning. The school, which is co-educational, has hostel accommodation with a capacity of up to 700 pupils. The paved and carefully landscaped surroundings are evident from the time one enters the gates of the school, which are manned day and night by security personnel. The sloping, rocky terrain was carefully taken into consideration when the drainage system was put in place. As a result, all the water ends up in the Kafue River on the Eastern end of the school. The view of the river and virgin forest from the terraces of the Playing Fields affords a beautiful panoramic view to the community. Near the banks of the river is a successful Production Unity which takes care of most of the needs of the Dining Hall, producing chickens, eggs, pork and vegetables. The New Face of Mpelembe In the year 1998, ZCCM was privatized by the Second Republican Government and most of its assets were bought by foreign Private Mining Companies. However, Government decided that the education of young Zambians should be entrusted to those that have had long, tested and vast experience in the provision of Education. The best people to take up this challenge were the Catholic Bishops of Zambia. And so, the running of Mpelembe Secondary School was transferred to the Zambia Episcopal Conference.
